Hi friends and fellow entrepreneurs..

I recently set up a new blog and was researching how to get the blog noticed by the search engines and how to start moving it up the alexa rankings so people actually get to see the blog.

Here are 10 steps I came across which can help get you started.

Step One: PINGING

Submit your blog to all of the Ping directories listed at

http://wordpresspinglist.com

To make this easy download a Ping Optimizer plugin and activate and go to settings.

In settings copy and paste the wordpress ping list into the settings list. Make sure you click enable pinging and limit excess pinging in short time. I set 30 mins to allow for editing 0f my post again etc. before it pings. This avoids too much pinging of the same post which can get you banned.

Step Two: PING AFTER EACH POST

Make sure to Ping your blog after every post. You will not need to do this if you have the Ping Optimizer plugin installed as it does this automatically.

Step Three: BLOG EXPLOSION

Step Four: RSS FEEDS

Submit your blog to RSS Feeds. You can go to a RSS Feed directory at www.rss-feeds-directory.com/blog_lists.html and manually submit your feed or use a RSS Feed submitter.

A feed submitter will save you a lot of time and I found one that works well and submits your feed to 100s of directories along with blog directory submissions and more.

Step Five: YAHOO
Go to http://my.yahoo.com

and sign up for an account and attach your blog to your account. Believe it or not this will get your blog included in Yahoo very quickly. Worth the effort as Yahoo has a Page Rank of 9.

Step Six and Seven:

Submit your blog to the major search engines with AddMe.com.

This site will submit your bolg free to the top 14 Search Engines.

Go to http://www.adme.com/submission.htm

Also SubmitExpress.com will submit your blog free to the top 20 Search engines.
Go to http://www.submitexpress.com/

Step Eight:

Locate blogs with a lot of traffic in your niche and place useful comments in their comment box. To find blogs in your niche simply type in the seach engine your niche + blog
Eg internet marketing + blog

Then you can type their blog in

http://www.compete.com and view site statistics and number of visitors daily etc. Obviously you are looking for high traffic blogs.

Step Nine:
Sign up for Google sites http://www.google.com/sites
and add content and link to your blog. This will get your blog included in Google very quickly.

Step Ten:
Submit your posts as articles to the top five Article Directories linking back to your blog post url. The top ten article submission sites based on page rank are. Submit to 3 to 5 sites, ezines certainly gets the most traffic

I actually said 10 steps but my step 11 is blog carnivals…

Remember quality content…will obviously get your blog noticed.

How often do you post is often a question. Shorter daily posts works better than longer posts once or twice a week. This is recommended by Seth Godin who states the goal is to spread ideas and that most marketers will have a few bloggable ideas a day.

So blog daily or 5 days a week with your ideas. Seth found writing a long post doesn’t increase communication it actually can decrease it.

Hey Ellen! Great post, it’s going to help so many people who are just setting up really see a difference in their traffic. I love that you mentioned commenting on other people’s posts…here’s another tip- when you comment on someone’s blog post – ping it! Then google will pick up that your link is on there too
