How do we use free traffic to rank in the top 10 results in Google?

Well I am sure you know the drill. You type in a word or phrase in the search engine, click search, you find a page in the display area and go to it. Well, the page you visited has just been sent free traffic. Or maybe you have tried to rank for a word or phrase, you type it in the search engine and you are no where to be seen. The truth is – almost 100% of traffic goes to the first page results.

So how do you get on the first page of the search engine results and get traffic for FREE? that is the question

So your marketing efforts need to focus on being “ranked” in the top 10 results by Google. Unfortunately this does take some time and strategy…so no being lazy…you want to make money don’t you?

STEP ONE: Have a Basic Understanding of SEO

I know I cringe at SEO but Search Engine Optimization is what we want.

What is SEO?

SEO shows the search engines that your website is clearly about a specific topic, keyword or phrase and shows them that others will find your site useful in that subject area. There are several things you need to do for your site to be acknowledged.

STEP TWO: Get indexed

Google needs to know your site exists…this is called being “indexed.” Google will look at your site and note what it is about and store the information in the Google database.

So how do you get google to know you exist??

This is done by getting a link from another site..it is best to get links from sites that are already indexed as google will follow the links to find you.

The best places for quick indexing is Twitter and Facebook profiles because these sites are indexed multiple times a day and new links will be followed right away.

STEP THREE: Gain Ranking

When your site has been indexed you will start to increase your rank, indexing is not enough to gain high ranking as Google has billions of pages in their database. The main components to increase your rankings once you are indexed are

Traffic From Content, Links and Activity.

CONTENT So you need to provide great content and ensure the content you provide matches the search terms you are going after so google sees it as beneficial to that search term. Also the title tags, outbound links and domain itself should match the topic of the page to help google determine what your website is about.

This is done by putting the keyword phrases you are going after in your content and title. Highlighting keywords and underlining in the article/ post also helps to show google what the content is about. Images which you name with your keyword phrase and videos an the content also help.

LINKING

Linking includes inbound and outbound links. Inbound is what you have coming in to your site. You want to have more coming in than coming out as the more inbound links the better your ranking will be.

A easy way to get lots of links to your site is through article marketing where you write a article that targets the keywords you are after to rank on page one in google. Write several different versions fo the articles and post to the top article submission sites. The more the better. For information on article writing read my post at

There are 1000s of free blogs sites on the internet! that you can post on and link back to your site or main blog. so when you write a few versions of your articles or posts- post them also to these sites. It is very simple to set up a account and use these sites to submit every piece of content.

Now I know this is time consuming and I am into saving time so I use some automated systems but these do cost but worth the investment as they are only one time and you can set it up to automatically syndicate your blog posts.

• Google Maps (http://maps.google.com) – make sure to download a google site map plugin for your blog

ACTIVITY

Google expects pages to be actively updated..pages that just sit may rank at first but will fall over time. So you need to update your pages of your site or your blog often. Daily posting on a blog is recommended or at least be constistent eg. twice a week etc. If you dont want to write your own content you can add new content by using RSS feeds.

But the best way is with active discussions on your posts…so you need to get people to visit your site and leave comments..You can do this by using forums and creating profile on lots of forums related to your sites topic and post often to link back to your site in the forum signature file. This will also generate more links back to your site.

You need to ask people to leave a comment or ask a question at the end of the post for people to respond to.. This will start the conversation and activity.

Automation Equals Speed and Getting The Job Done

This is just a small amount of information about this subject there is so much information out there. Lets face it writing articles, creating web 2.0 sites, joining forums and posting everyday is very time consuming. We are all very busy and many of us are unlikely to do all this and that is why many marketers dont make it online. so I advice to automate what you can because if you dont do this it means you will never get free traffic from google.

Great tips Ellen. SEO is a tricky process to get skilled in. I’m learning still some of the basics myself and I’m getting rather good at it. I’m no pro just yet, but I’m getting there just about.
